If you are not used to hiking, like myself, you will be sore for a few days. The "one hour and fifteen minute" self-guided tour took three hours with six adults and seven kids, six of them between ages 2-8. Once you get past the gorge and the falls, there's nothing else to do except look out over the valley. The staircase is not wide enough to stop and enjoy the falls or the gorge, therfore you have to keep moving so you don't keep everyone behind you from moving. It's very steep in places, going up and down. It takes you an hour or two, if you stop here and there and take some awesome pictures. I love this place! It does worth the entrance fee. It was raining and it was still my favorite stop on our trip! We took the long route and took our time to see flume gorge, liberty cascades, the pool overlooked by a covered wooden bridge and the "rock gardens". Not the easiest hike and my daughter needed to take a lot of breaks but just incredible views like we've never seen! Haven't seen a picture yet that does it justice! They have many benches and rain pavilions along the path to take breaks and a very nice visitor center. Close your eyes and you can enjoy the flow of water through the rocks. It's such an incredible spot in the NH mountains! Easy parking and access through the park. Had a great time hiking the trails with friends. The walk back down on the trail behind it is really nice to get some pictures of the scenic mountains. You just have to take your time because a lot of people stop to take pictures and it gets backed up. The walkway is well maintained and accessible.
even for people who are not accustomed to walking long periods.Ī beautiful place with a wonderful hike going up The Flume Gorge. and if they go with children they have patience is a long way. I would definitely recommend wearing a good outfit and having spare time is almost an hour of walking between uphill down stairs and up stairs. It might be difficult for a handicapped person. In addition to the gorge itself, there are covered bridges, wooded area, The Pool and so much more.
#FLUME GORGE NH FULL#
The full walk is about 3 miles but there are busses for those that don't want to make the full trek. This is an impressive sight that should not be missed.
I was not expecting this or the gift shop / cafe.Ībsolutely stunning. $16 for a walk is the most I have ever paid. We came from a similar gorge in another state that was completely free. Lots of good photo ops, but it can definitely get crowded!Ī beautiful hike! However it was rather short and extremely overpriced. Great activity to add to your trip if you're already in the area. It's a fun walk to enjoy the outside for a couple hours. I have taken a number of people to the Flume - and everyone enjoys it - the planet's geography is so alive here. I always feel in awe of nature when I am at the Flume. There are two ways to hike it - one easier than the other - walking along the walkways - in the high granite walls of the George - the water rushing below - very different and refreshing. I love coming here - over the years - when I am in the area -I often make a detour and save a few hours so that I can go to The Flume. In the summer this is hugely popular and full of traffic.
However there is still people making their way through. Trails are more closed off and naturally more dangerous in winter. Summer is good time to visit but avoid raining day for the flood warning.īeautiful even in the winter.
#FLUME GORGE NH SERIES#
A series of heady and light waterfalls displayed in front of us. A loud roar from a distance excited us to swim through chilly and damper wind. Minutes later we were on a long narrow bridge along the river channel in the rocky mountain. On the way upstream of the river, the view from water flowing through the rocky surface and the wind from the forest skinning the mountain spring had swiped summer heat away. The water is very clear but cold like spring water. We followed trail or should say go upstream the river. We had a wonderful time hiking through the Gorge, it is a very long walk that you can mostly take at your own pace, there are some narrow spots where you would be in the way of people trying to watch. I've been going here since I was a wee little one and plan on continued going until my legs no longer cooperate! The White Mountains are beautiful and The Flume Gorge plays a huge part in that :-) My four-year-old son loves it! My 78 year old grandmother loved to hike it as well. Great place to stretch the legs with amazing views all along the way.
